Yesterday we showed you the memo from the Chief Education Officer directing school managers to cut the pay of teachers who missed work on Friday to participate in the protest. Well today the UDP issued a statement telling the teachers, that the UDP is, "prepared to mobilize our supporters to bring the government to its senses."
Viewers may recall that after an initial standoff, UDP leader Dean Barrow and union leaders had a megaphone truce in Belmopan last Friday. The UDP statement says that the threat of a pay cut is an act of intimidation, and gratuitously adds that the teachers were absent, "for the noblest and most patriotic cause."
The UDP also appeals to government not to cut to teachers' pay.
