And while getting elderly into assisted living facilities may be a bit complicated, getting kids into schools is a whole other matter. While the Ministry of Education has greenlit schools who can reopen, most of them chose not to, many of them at the request of parents. But in March it will be two years out of classes, and the government is working to get kids back into them. Today the Minister of Home Affairs, and a father of two, says he's ready to send his children back.

Hon. Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries

"I realize how much there is value in interaction. And I know that so many of our young children do not have access to computers, do not have access to good Internet. And I know how many have been affected by this. So I am certainly one that would want to see schools reopen. I know that we are going through a surge of Covid cases, but at the same time, we also have to address this very significant factor that our young people are suffering because they don't have this interaction with their classmates and with their teacher and proper supervision. And so we're going now almost on two years of being out of class. And that's going to have significant impact on the future learning and development of our children. So I, for one, certainly advocate for the reopening of schools, but of course, in a very responsible, careful manner, adhering to all of the protocols that the different schools will have in place."
