And form junior saver accounts to a senior shortage of nurses trained nurses are in demand all over the world.
That was before the COVID pandemic placed immense pressure on the global public health infrastructure. Those shortages hurt the nursing community even more because they had to take on additional, massive workloads to look after their country's population.
Here in Belize, career nurses have also explained that there is a brain drain affecting their colleagues because they can make more money abroad.
In the hopes of training Belizeans to join the profession, the Government of Belize has offered full scholarships to 45 recipients to further their education. An award ceremony was held today at the Biltmore Plaza Hotel, and our news team attended. Daniel Ortiz has that story:
Chebat says that in January of this year, the Ministry of Health invested in the training of 19 nurse specialist midwives at the UB at a cost of over 400 thousand dollars. They are expected to be certified by March 2022.
The Ever Rising Price of Gas
Over the last few weeks and months, car owners have been tracking the successive spikes in fuel prices with increasing frustration. And tonight, the Briceno Government is back to announce that another price increase "bukkut" is coming down the pipeline. At midnight, the already high pump prices for premium gasoline and diesel will go up, just in time for the Garifuna Settlement Day Holiday weekend.
Premium will increase by 34 cents, from 12 dollars and 11 cents to 12 dollars and 45 cents per gallon. Diesel will increase by 27 cents, from 11 dollars and 43 cents to 11 dollars and 70 cents per gallon.
The prices for regular gasoline and kerosene will remain unchanged for now.
