And with the increasing US sanctions making life in Cuba a desperate daily struggle, Fonseca says they also had to reduce the number of Cuban scholarships:

"We have scaled down the program because and it was an agreement between us we have been sending a few students but not in the numbers we were in the past and that is because of the current situation in Cuba, the very very difficult challenges they are facing economically. And so it is much more difficult for students and their families when they go to Cuba so it is just a reflection of the economic realities in Cuba so we are sending students but at much smaller numbers."
