Earlier this week we told you that in its Holy Thursday meeting the National Environmental Appraisal Committee gave conditional approval to the proposed Port of Belize cruise terminal.
Today, the details of this were publicized.
A release says, quote, "the NEAC recommended that environmental clearance be granted with strict conditions to reduce the potential negative environmental and some social impacts of the project."
The release adds that "NEAC is of the opinion that the 2026 EIA report varied significantly from those submitted in the past" - which is a reference to the Waterloo port proposal which it rejected in 2022.
This version was recommended for approval by a majority of the NEAC members.
