And from Cuba to Trinidad, the Prime Minister of that island nation, Kamla Persad-Bissessar continues to passionately oppose the reappointment of Belize's Dr Carla Barnett as Secretary General.

She recently wrote in a social media post that, quote, "It's an appointment that directly affects the future over the coming five years of Trinidad and Tobago's economy, security, integration, and foreign affairs. Therefore in the interest of my citizens wellbeing I will mercilessly, relentlessly, and if needed, ruthlessly publicly prosecute this matter until transparency is achieved. Therefore I again call on CARICOM for answers on the surreptitious and odious process used to reappoint CARICOM Secretary-General Barnett."

Today, Fonseca said he isn't fazed by what he feels is a procedural complaint:

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs
"Well Belize I think we have made it fully, fully clear that we support the reappointment of Dr Carla Barnet we recognize that you know Trinidad and Tobago has raise certain concerns about procedural concerns about reappointment we agree that those have to be addressed within CARICOM but Belize supports, fully supports Dr Barnett's reappointment we think the great majority of countries in CARICOM do and as you know her term I think this is one issue that may have gotten loss in the discussion.""

Her term really comes to an end in August of this year and so I don't think there was ever the intention that it would be at this meeting there would be a final determination of her reappointment but it was discussed at the leaders retreat and the leaders expressed their support for her reappointment. Now it is a question of formalizing that re appointment at the subsequent meeting, I think they will have another meeting in July I believe and it is at that meeting there will be a formal reappointment process.
