Last night we told you about a house that fell off its stilts in the Belama Phase One area of Belize City. Tonight there is little new to report except that now the residents of the area, having seen what happened to their neighbor are concerned about their houses which were built around the same time. Luis Marin says his wife was unable to sleep last night fearing the stilts for her home would buckle as well.
Luis Marin, Concerned Area Resident
"The same thing will happen to us because two of the posts on my house have already been cracking up. I was telling my wife that I am going to the Social Security Board because they are in charge of the house and see what they can do because it is their house. We are renting it until we finished paying after twenty years. If the house falls down, then what will happen? It a lucky thing nobody got hurt over there. It is very serious."
Alfonso Noble Reporting,
So are you afraid that your house might actually drop?
Luis Marin,
"Of course, my wife she didn't sleep last night. it is a serious situation. It is their house, they should address this situation a long time ago because they come here several times and just look at the house and just leave."
Alfonso Noble,
How many years have you been living here?
Luis Marin,
"Right now 16 years."
Alfonso Noble,
So you still have a good four more years to pay?
Luis Marin,
"Well not according to the post, they are built bad. They are built bad because for a long time they have been like that, you can watch the house on the side and when it rains a lot, the whole house inside, well it doesn't get wet inside but you can see the water on the wall. Maybe some of the tenants don't pay to time and so, they just neglect the things."
Alfonso Noble,
Do you pay on time?
Luis Marin,
"Not really. I don't know if that lady paid to time, maybe too. So maybe that could be a reason why those people don't really check the houses."
