And keeping it on the city's Southside, this afternoon we were called out to Orange Street. After a twenty-minute downpour - the newly concrete - paved street was flooded just like it had been before.

In fact some who live and work in the area told us it was worse than before. They wanted to know how it could be since - culverts had been installed to alleviate the drainage difficulty.

Well we spoke to the contractor today, Roque Matus of M and M Engineering. He repeated what he told us a few days ago: the drainage work is not finished. The left side of the street - opposite Extra House is still not draining at all. To fix that, they'll have to install a culvert on Mosul Street and clean out the drains all along that side of the street.

The work on that could not be done at the same time as the right side of the street - because traffic would have been paralyzed. That culvert work will commence tomorrow.

And while it was an inconvenience for pedestrians who had to be hopping over puddles - and shopkeepers who had to be sweeping away water - truth is the water won't harm the concrete any - and will actually help it cure.
