Today the Ministry of Rural Transformation received a much needed donation of a truck and a water bowser to assist those communities who have been affected by droughts or whose rudimentary water supply systems fail. According to a release, the ministry spends approximately $100,000 to purchase and deliver water to rural communities, so this donation will significantly reduce the government's cost and enhance the ministry's capacity to deliver safe and potable water to rural communities in emergencies. The donation is a part of the EnGenDER project being implemented by UNDP and the National Climate Change Office. The Minister, Oscar Requena received the donation today and spoke about its importance.
The International truck and 35,000-litre bowser were supplied by Belize Diesel and Equipment Limited at a cost of $178,000 Belize dollars.
