And while that accident tragically ended in the loss of a life, the Crocodile Research Coalition may have prevented a croc incident in Hopkins this week. On Tuesday night, Hamanasi Resort contacted CRC about a croc near the shore. When they visited the site on Wednesday, they found that the sub-adult croc, which they realized is a hybrid between the American crocodile and the Morelet's, was badly injured.

According to the CRC, this is breeding season for the crocs and males can be very territorial - especially with loss of habitat. By the time they found this croc, it was evident that he had not been eating and would not have survived on his own. So the research biologist, Jonathon Triminio and the executive director, Dr Maria Tellez, captured him and have relocated him to a pond where he can be monitored.

At first, Dr Tellez feared the croc would not make it, but so far he has been eating the fish from the pond and they have hopes that he will make a full recovery. They will continue to monitor him for the next couple of months.
