But while that croc got help, a jaguar was found dead on the Southern Highway, somewhere near mile 12 and a half. The jaguar was reportedly hit while crossing the road but while earlier reports had said that he was deliberately killed and his tooth intentionally taken out, Julio Saqui, who reported the animal, told us today that it was actually an accident. Here's how he explained it:
Voice of: Julio Saqui, Chocolatier

"We have opened up our business early this morning from our chocolate factory and a couple of visitors/tourists stop by and wanted to purchase some coffee and hot chocolate drinks and one of them was relaying to us that they saw a jaguar dead on the side of the road just above Maya Center about 1 mile from Maya Center passed Kendall (Village). I was trying to get in contact with somebody from the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve to go and check it out and apparently, they were already on it. They brought the jaguar into the village and I went to see and realize the jaguar was actually hit and dead. It was a young male jaguar. When we look at it, it appeared that a tooth was pulled out, but apparently all those guesses were not as correct as we had thought, so later on in the day around 11am, Miss Budna who witnessed the whole scenario called me to make some corrections and according to her the jaguar just shoot out of the bushes right in front of a 6-wheeler truck that could not have avoided hitting the cat and hit it and it died on impact and according to her the jaguar hit the pavement and that's probably where one of the tooth was broken out, but it was not intentional in taking out. She wanted to make that correction to me and I told her that sounds more accurate. So they move it on the side of the road and then later people get to find out and came to look at the corpse. Thats what happened and these things do happen. So it was not intentionally pulled out."
