Back in August, we told you how the Government of Belize, via the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics & E-Governance, was engaging in early consultations with Belizeans on a National Energy Policy.
As viewers are aware, Belize is making a full-court press to become more energy efficient. First, there's the Energy Efficiency Labeling Scheme, launched two days ago to encourage households countrywide to switch out their appliances to newer models that use energy more efficiently. Then, there is the program that BEL launched to encourage motorists to consider switching to electric vehicles. Also, the country is in the first phases of distributive generation, where homeowners can install solar panels on their rooftops to generate power that can be sold to the national grid.
These initiatives have a place in the National Energy Policy, which the Government is finalizing. That policy was discussed in an all-day session today at the Biltmore, and our news team stopped in to speak with the professionals on the topic:

But while it's understandable that such a process may take a while, the San Pedranos don't feel the same way about the slow construction of the bridge spanning the north and south side of the island. It was announced in December 2021 that the bridge would be re-constructed with cement instead of the planks it had before, but nearly a year later, it still isn't completed.
Area rep, Andre Perez, says the reason is because they ensure the bridge is constructed correctly, and will last decades.
San Pedro Needs A Bigger Airport
And another project that the area rep is looking at is expanding the airstrip. That's because of the number of flights coming in from the PGIA, and with the tourism high season approaching, it's expected to get a lot worse.
Perez told us about his plans for the expansion yesterday.
Making a New Beach
And finally, Perez also told us that they are embarking on a massive land reclamation project that will see beach expanded. Here's how he explained it:
