And heading a little more south, if you're planning to go to Placencia for the holidays, you won't have to worry about the sargassum that has been swarming the islands. According to the chairperson for the Placencia Chapter of BTIA, their beaches have been mostly clean of the smelly seaweed.
Elysia Dial, Chairperson, Placencia Chapter, BTIA

"Well, I'm going to knock on wood right now at this table I'm sitting at. We have been very fortunate this year that we have not had the sargassum bush so to speak as the islands up north have, I feel for them because when we have it that badly out here, because my business is just right on the beach you know my staff ends up with respiratory problems or skin… there's so much negative impacts from sargassum. We're fortunate as well that our village council here in Placencia and also up in Seine Bight have been working very hard to help clear areas of the coastline that has sargassum build up but we've had it down here in the past, in previous years, as bad as I've seen pictures recently of San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Fortunately, right now, that is not the case down here, so we do have but not very much."
