Last week, Prime Minister John Briceno told the media that the government would be opening more centers where Belizeans could get COVID tested for free.
This is after the Opposition said that government was not doing enough to protect low-income Belizeans from the expense of having to get the test done at private facilities.
Today, the Ministry of Health announced that new sites are now active. In Punta Gorda, you can go get a free test at the Red Cross Building. In Dangriga, tests are being offered at BTL Park. In San Ignacio, you can go to Falcon Field for the test. In Santa Elena, the site is located at the Sports Council, while in Benque Viejo, residents can get tested at the Marshalleck Cancha.
In Orange Walk, the free testing sites are located at Central Park, the Louisiana Government School, the Banquitas House of Culture, and the People's Stadium.
In Corozal, you can get tested for free at the Civic Centre, the Chunox Health Center, and the San Andres Community Center.
These are in addition to the existing sites at the Civic Center Parking Lot in Belmopan and Belize City. All sites are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone can access testing, except persons planning to travel. There's no word on what level of expertise the persons staffing the4se sites will have.
