Earlier this month, we saw a spike in COVID numbers - nothing as major as 2020-2021 - and nothing that prompted the Ministry of Health to reinstate any of the COVID regulations. And while Dr Melissa Diaz had said that they weren't doing genome sequencing to see what variant it was at the time, yesterday the CEO said they might not be starting that up again any time soon. And that COVID has just become something we have to live with.
Dr. Julio Sabido, CEO, Ministry of Health
"Dr. Diaz has said that we're not doing it, I don't think, and the word think, that we're going to start it anytime soon. COVID is here with us, we're going to have to live with it, we have lifted the restrictions, we don't see any increase in hospitalizations, whilst we may have seen increase in numbers, we don't see the increase in hospitalizations which is indicative of the severity of the disease but we have not seen that as yet and we hope that it continues that way."
Courtney Menzies:
"Do you anticipate that its status will be dropped to just a flu?"
Dr. Julio Sabido, CEO, Ministry of Health
"Not to just a flu but I anticipate that it will be dropped to not being a pandemic anymore."
