Last month, we told you that KHMH's former chairman, Dr Andre Sosa, was unceremoniously terminated, with just an email notifying him that he no longer held that post. Since then, board member, Arun Hotchandani, had been acting chairman, and there had been persistent reports that banker, Martin Marshalleck would be handpicked for the permanent position.

Well, today the minister confirmed those reports, and explained that though Marshalleck does not have a health background, his expertise in the financial sector will help with KHMH's own money issues.

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health
"After careful consideration we have decided that Mr Martin Marshalleck will serve as the chairman of the KHMH Authority Board of Governors. His letter was sent to him yesterday evening and I have made the board aware of that decision this morning."

"Well Mr Mashalleck bring 30+ years of management and financial experience, banking experience, and I feel that in order to move KHMH- like I had said before we need to put KHMH in a more financial viable footing and we think we need that direction. Now, the other members on the board, we have doctors on the board, so they are the ones that will provide the technical assistance to the chairman in order to ensure there is a balance in terms of what are the health needs within the KHMH, what are the technical things that need to me addressed and of course from a managerial standpoint, we believe that Mr Marshalleck will be able to bring that balance together and be able to move KHMH forward."

Courtney Menzies:
"Was Dr Sosa not fulfilling those requirements at the hospital?"

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health
"I will not say that, and I will not get into Dr Sosa, I think we have passed that already, we made a decision to make a change. Dr Sosa did his very best, I will not dispute that either, but I believe we needed a new direction, and that's the decision we have taken."
