And while the Mayor is hands - on with that situation, he took all hands off when it came to the case of the city resident who fenced off a street in Lake Independence and called it private property.

As we told you last night, Edwin Beaton has locked off Jennifer Smith Street with no entry signs. Beaton says he has the documentation that proves that the entire lot is his, and there is no street marked there.

And while it is, or is supposed to be a city street, the mayor said that one is above his payscale:

Reporter
"There is this situation with a resident in the Lake I area who's blocked off what used as a street. Is that something that the council can do anything about?"

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"That's a land matter. We will not get engage in that. That's an issue with the ministry of lands."

Reporter
"So you just give up a street?"

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"No, it's an issue with the ministry of lands and once that is clarified then if they say its a street, then the city will move ahead, but it's an issue with the lands department."
