And in another percolating commercial matter - the Prime Minister weighed in on the dispute over the definitive agreement for the Port of Magical Belize.
As we've been reporting the former Ministerial Chair of the UDP Subcommittee on investment says it never passed her desk, and the former UDP Ag said the same.
But it was signed by the former Minister of Economic Development and the PM says that makes it binding:
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"And that is for an obvious reason there are two private entities, trading words at one another and that is between them. We as a government we are able to ensure that whatever investments or whatever approvals that were made by the government of Belize can be carried out. The definitive agreement and I have bot seen it was signed by the minister responsible then obviously it is. going to be binding because it's the government of Belize that signed it but I will not get into the back and forth between the two entities, that's amongst them."
Reporter:
"If it is found that the definitive agreement was given fraudulently is there any way that perhaps your administration could rescind that contract?"
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"As you rightly pointed out that is a legal question and that would be something for the attorney general's ministry to take a look at and then to advise the Cabinet."
