And while the KHMHA board will have to welcome the new chairman, today the Minister of Health welcomed the new Taiwanese Ambassador. We told you earlier in the week that David Kuan-Chou Chien was moving on, and in his place Lily Li-Wen Hsu would take over. And her first public appearance happened this morning at the KHMH, at the start of the official National Assistant Radiographer Training.

Four of the technical staff travelled to Taiwan, and they're now expected to pass on their knowledge to healthcare workers across the country, in hopes of drastically improving the radiology departments in the various hospitals.

Today, the Minister of Health told us more.

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health
"One of the things I think is critical for us to understand is the type of partnership we got from Taiwan and the training of our radiographers. When this program was launched, as you heard, it was delayed because of COVID so it was little after I became the minister of health and wellness that they decided to rename the radiographers that would go out to Taiwan to get the training. Remember, one of the things that we have always tried to do is up our ante in terms of diagnostic testing and so forth and so the opportunity that the four radiographer that went out that we identified across the country to go out and get this skill is to be able to come back to Belize and them impart that same knowledge to other radiographers in the country. Now we are working along with the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital to see if there can be more training programs, which they have committed to come in and oversee the program that we are doing here locally. There is commitment however that this partnership will continue where we can send more of our radiographers to learn and train."

"So it's about imparting knowledge, it's about sharing knowledge to the other radiographers that are here, and I'm sure that that will definitely benefit KHMH because at the end of the day, these people will be able to analyze their diagnostic results at a much better level. Now do we have the type of equipment Taiwan has? That's a challenge, we are trying to see how we can improve on those things so the demand that we have is to now bring up to speed our diagnostic system that exists at both KHMH and across the country."

20 healthcare workers will receive this training which will take place right at the KHMH.
