And while he can't touch that street - the mayor says that he will touch other. Yes, in this year of election - which begins in March - leading up to municipal elections on March 5th 2024, his council will begin a street refurbishment campaign.
It's been sorely lacking from the council's less than spectacular resumé of public works and the mayor conceded today that it is an Achilles heel:
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City

"Over 90 streets to be rehabilitated either by way of concreting, either by way of ship and seal or by the hardcore material. I will share that with you all very shortly, but it's a robust plan. If you've visited the Rocky Road area, that has been concrete, Berkely Street has been concrete. We are now starting Church Street from the bridge to Glenn Street, we have Price Street, Bishop Street - all of those streets will be concreted. We have some in the King's Park area as well, they are ready for chip and seal. It's a whole bunch of streets we'll be doing."

"We have those once paved roads in the Collet area that are now dirt roads again."
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"The Antelope Street Extension. Yes, that will be chip and seal fully."
We note that Berkeley Street and Rocky Road - not far from this studio - are two of the smallest streets in the city.
