A construction worker was electrocuted in Santa Clara Village, Corozal district this afternoon. It happened while he was working on top of a cement house along with his son.
44 year old Jose Rodriguez was reportedly changing the roofing of the zinc house when his drill came in contact with a high tension wire. Upon realizing his father had been electrocuted, 18 year old Elsner Rodriguez scrambled to remove his father from the roof.
Neighbor and Nursing Assistant Nancy Chan who responded to the incident says that by the time they managed to move Rodriguez he was already unresponsive.

"When I reached there, some of the neighbors were bringing him down, and his face was already cyanotic, so purple, so that means that he never had no pulse. I wanted to go up, the space was too small up there."
"So some guys that work in the street, they were back here. So they are the ones, along with a neighbor here, that were bringing him down. So when they brought him down, we laid him flat. I checked if he had pulse, but there was no pulse."
"So I started CPR. I did five cycles of that, but still, we couldn't get no pulse. So we were trying to get assistance. My sister called for the ambulance they told her that the ambulance was not in Corozal, that it was in Belize, which I don't know if Corozal always goes to Belize for transfers."
"As far as I know, Orange Walk is the one who always does the transfers. And she even called the police, and the police told her that she needs to call the ambulance. So I don't know what assistance we were going to get from there."
"He only had like a burn to his face, I think because of the same electricity that went to his body. The only thing that I saw is through his face, right here on the left side. But apart from that, he had no bleeding because, like I told you, I did CPR."
"I never had nothing, like the face mask that we used to give the oxygen through the mouth. I had to do the mouth and mouth thing. So he was not bleeding from nowhere."
