A Central American Leader's Summit will be held in Belize next month and the President of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes says he believes that the meeting is important, because it might help in lowering the tensions between Nicaraugua and Costa Rica. The remarks were reported in today's edition of the Salvadoran newspaper, La Prensa. Funes was referring to the border conflict between the two neighboring countries which was ignited last month when Costa Rica accused Nicaragua of a military incursion into its territory, and the dredging of a river that has caused environmental damage to some of its wetlands.

For his part, the General Secretary of the Central American Integration System (SICA), Juan Daniel German, said the Summit will be an "excellent opportunity" for the regional heads to reflect on regional priorities such as the still unresolved issue of re-admitting Honduras to the OAS. The summit is scheduled for December 16th in Belize.
