COVID has caused economic devastation all over the world and Belize is no exception. But, Cuba has it far worse than us: the island nation is crippled by the decades old US embargo - and when COVID got added to the mix, it killed their tourism industry and made a dire situation very desperate.

That's why the Government of Belize has agreed to send humanitarian donations to Cuba, quote, "in solidarity with the nation's government and people." The shipment will depart Belize tomorrow and includes food supplies, sanitation and assorted hygiene products valued at $200,000 dollars.

A government press release says, quote, "Despite…challenges, Cuba produced four vaccines and was the first country in the world to vaccinate children. Cuba has also shared its vaccines with several countries. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Belize was one of the first countries to be aided by Cuba's Henry Reeve Brigade." End quote.
