Prime Minister John Briceno left the country yesterday for Nassau, Bahamas, where he will attend the 44th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government.

Today in Bahamas, the current CARICOM Chairman, Bahamian Prime Minister Phillip Davis hosted a press conference along with the CARICOM Secretary General Dr Carla Barnett.

He outlined some of the main items on the agenda for the meeting which will run from the 15th to the 17th of February:

One of the key issues at this meeting is the state of Haiti - which has been plunged into chaos by violence, criminal gangs and a failed government.

It's a CARICOM sister nation - but the Chairman says Haiti's needs are too great for any CARICOM military intervention:

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be attending this CARICOM Summitt and a statement from his office says

"The visit will provide an opportunity for the leaders to consider further regional political, security, and humanitarian assistance in support of the Haitian people and Haitian-led solutions to the ongoing situation in Haiti...."
