Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde was in Palenque, Mexico this weekend for a major regional summit that drew many of the heavy hitters of the global south.

The leaders of 10 countries were there for a Migration Summitt to discuss integrated solutions on how to tackle issues surrounding irregular migration currently occurring throughout Central America and the Caribbean.

The countries have agreed to devise a plan of action that will target the structural causes of migration in each region, and to combat organized transnational crime which includes human trafficking and smuggling. Here's what Deputy Hyde had to say in his intervention on Sunday:

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador welcomed Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela, Miguel Diaz-Canel of Cuba, and Gustavo Petro of Colombia, among others including several foreign ministers.
