The United States Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya today concluded an official visit to Belize, after also traveling to Jamaica.

A release says the trip was to advance bilateral and regional cooperation on civilian security, migration, and human rights.

In Belize, she met with Prime Minister Briceno, Home Affairs Minister Musa, and Defence Minister Marin.

She also met with the National Women's Commission and the National AIDS Commission as well as Petal and Unibam.

At a wind-up press briefing in Belize City today, she and the Minister ofForeign Affairs went over the key points of her visit:

"The Secretary, of course, has visited here in Belize, had an opportunity to visit with a cross-section of key stakeholders in Belize, and we hope that that has as allowed her to gain a better understanding and an appreciation of how the U.S. can align their support and work towards collaborative solutions with Belize."

"And we just had a very good discussion that we talked about citizens, security, human rights, you know, democracy, amnesty program by the migration issue, you know, and issues that affect the most vulnerable in our society."
