It may not be so much in the news recently but the confidence building work continues in the OAS Adjacency Zone between Belize and Guatemala.
And it has now secured funding for three more years. On Friday, the OAS and the European Union signed a new three-year project to, quote, "support the work of the between Belize and Guatemala."
A release says "The OAS Mission in the Zone has played a crucial role for 20 years in facilitating dialogue and cooperation between the two countries, as well as promoting an environment of peace and security in the Adjacency Zone."
The release adds that the OAS has participated in the verification of more than 490 incidents in the Adjacency Zone.
Under the new project with a budget of approximately $6.5 Million Belize Dollars, quote, "the OAS Mission in the Adjacency Zone will continue to work closely with the authorities of Belize and Guatemala to promote confidence-building measures, resolve incidents and support community development projects that benefit local populations."
