And during the Heads of Government meeting, the 60 year old US embargo of Cuba - and the present suffering it is causing there was also discussed. CARICOM has pledged to provide material support to Cuba. Fonseca explained more.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs

"We're doing it as a regional so we haven't broken down exactly who will do what but again, Cuba is going through a very difficult time. Not only are they dealing with an unjust economic blockade but now on top of that, they're dealing with a designation as a state sponsor of terrorism which is completely without basis, without evidence, without foundation so it's absolutely crippling for the Cuban economy and also very difficult for the Cuban people. So all of CARICOM felt that we needed to provide support to our brothers and sisters in Cuba. Belize has consistently supported our friend in Cuba in any way we can and again through this new mechanism that CARICOM has put in place we will do so again."
