It's been about a month and a half since William Dawson passed away, and his post as LIU chairman remains open. That's because Dawson isn't an easy man to replace - he was a peacemaker in the streets, moving seamlessly between known gang territories and instilling hope in young men who had fallen through the cracks.

But today, the Minister of Police said that there has been a lot of interest in the position, it's just a matter of finding the perfect fit.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"We have a lot of people who would want to take on that role and that means a lot as minister that there's a lot of buy in that multi sectoral approach that. Mr Dawson and so we have no selected one as yet, as you know we have a peace rally this Friday which is being led by the community council as well as the Leadership Intervention Unit so really and truly it is a decision that will be made by those who are affected by this type of approach, those individual will have a say moving forward and we want like I said someone who that they trust, someone that engages with them regularly and someone who they can relate to. That is really who we're looking for but again, it might not necessarily be one person, it might be two or three individuals who can take on the many roles that Mr Dawson played."
