One of the interesting indicators in the census is that the foreign born population cite the number one reason for coming to Belize as reuniting with family.
In the past, the number one reason was to come to Belize to seek employment. That is now the number two reason.
But, immigrant labour remains a major part of the labour equation and this was underscored by the CEO for Economic Development - who is himself the son of immigrant laborers in the banana industry:
