7NEWS broke the story 4 weeks ago, but now it's official: Wilfred "Sedi" Elrington is back in the United Democratic Party (UDP). A party release says that the National Party Council, the Shadow Cabinet and the Executive Committee met with Elrington on Saturday afternoon and decided unanimously to offer him full membership of the UDP.
Elrington now becomes the party's caretaker representative in the Pickstock division - where he has lost three successive elections by increasing margins.
Still, as an independent in last year's general election, Elrington earned twice the number of votes than the UDP's Dianne Haylock.
