And while the San Pedro victory was almost guaranteed, in Dangriga there was skepticism especially after the UDP's well-known and popular mayoral candidate Frank "Pawpa" Mena was injured in a freak fire. That took him off the campaign trail right up until the day before election and for a while, it looked like the incumbent Cassian Nunez would win a three peat. But he didn't because "Pawpa" Mena defeated him decisively. In an interview with an un-affiliated media representative, the mayor was grateful for the support and his health.

"There aren't words in Oxford or Webster, neither the thesaurus, that can probably describe the way I feel and I would want to say to them, and I'll make it simple, I'm grateful and that gratefulness comes from deep within my heart."
After that interview, "Pawpa" thanked those supporters in person. Here are the images of a burned but victorious "Pawpa" Mena.
