With a solid endorsement from the island community's wealthiest resident, it was surprise to none that the UDP would retain control of the town hall in San Pedro. Around 4 am the announcement was made that it was official that Elsa Paz would return as mayor along with 6 other United Democratic Party candidates. The official announcement was preceded by a motorcade through that town's main streets and our colleagues at the San Pedro Sun captured it. Here are some clips along with an interview this morning with the UDP's elected Belize Rural South Representative Manuel Heredia Jr.
Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Belize Rural South
"I feel that the people have spoken, they have sent a message to Belmopan that enough is enough and I think it is not only San Pedro but the whole country. For me it is a big moment in my life and I will continue to do the best for my island."
We note that the PUP's mayoral candidate Don Alberto Nunez polled the lowest out of all 7 PUP candidates.
