The Justices of the Peace Association has been evicted from its office on the second floor of the Commercial Center. In a letter dated July 28th, Deputy Mayor Wayne Usher wrote National President of the Association Danny Madrid ordering them to move out.
In letters to Mayor Zenaida Moya, the first one dated March 21st Madrid, a former PUP councilor wrote that he had secured the office free of charge from the previous council. The PUP City Council was also paying the salary for the Association's secretary. Well new council, new rules.
Deputy Mayor Usher this evening told us the decision has nothing to do with Madrid or the JP's Association. Usher says the council is trying to streamline operations and save money. The office the JPs used will now be used by the City Council. He says the JPs Association can use the CITCO's conference room when necessary. As for the salary of the association's secretary, Usher says they simply cannot afford to pay it. Meanwhile the JPs Association is now operating out of the Marelco Building on North Front Street.
