And while the Prime Minister will apparently not cave in to a challenge from his party's hardliners, that isn't the only faction of the party which is challenging the Prime Minister. 7NEWS is reliably informed that yesterday, Deputy Party Leader John Briceno delivered an angry letter to the Prime Minister from the Northern caucus - which he chairs.

The letter comes out of a four-hour meeting held on Briceno's home turf in Orange Walk Town yesterday in which the 8 divisions from the north were represented. We are informed that at the caucus members expressed dissatisfaction with government's and the party's performance in a number of areas, and particularly about how the caucus secretary Narda Garcia was treated by the Party Leader and Prime Minister.

We are reliably informed that many in the meeting called for a national convention but that did not appear in the letter to the Prime Minister. Instead the letter expresses what one source says is "deep concern and dissatisfaction," with some of the party leader's decisions. With that the Prime Minister has told caucus leader Briceno that he will listen and has planned a meeting for August 19th after Briceno returns from vacation.
