That appeasement effort obviously failed, and not just with the NTUCB! 7NEWS has received a rough letter sent today from BTL boss Dean Boyce to the Minister of Labour Francis Fonseca.

It is in response to a letter Fonseca sent to BTL yesterday, in which he, referring to Christine Perriot, says that the Ministry of Labour will not allow BTL to disrespect the rights or dignity of any Belizean worker. Fonseca closes by saying that he hopes BTL will positively participate in efforts to resolve the dispute.

Well, Boyce properly lectures the Minister, "it is entirely inappropriate for you...as Minister of Labour to comment as you do in relation to a private matter between BTL and Christine Perriot without full knowledge of the circumstances which led to the termination." It continues, "we therefore request that you withdraw your comments."

And as for Fonseca's urging that BTL step in line in a positive way, Boyce had some more chiding for the Minister, saying "it is not acceptable for you to suggest that BTL has not cooperated."

Strong words to the Minister, and it's left to be seen if Fonseca will withdraw his comments. Other than that, we wait until tomorrow's press conference to see what the NTUCB has to say......and do.
