Last week we told you about the Artists for Peace and Common Sense, the group of creatives protesting the cozy relationship between elements of the Belize security apparatus and Israel. The group was moved into action last week after getting word that the Israeli state would not only be hosting a celebration of its 70th Anniversary at the Belmopan Police Academy, but also facilitating a "Police and Community" course. Today the National Trade Union Congress of Belize issued a strong statement condemning the government for authorizing the "Police and Community" course, calling it a, quote, "abhorrent act, likely to endanger the human rights record of the nation state Belize." The NTUCB urged the Cabinet to seek similar programs facilitated by other Commonwealth nations instead.
