But going back to the George Price Highway rehabilitation project, while it does bear promise, it raised a whole lotta eyebrows today when it was disclosed that the Imer Hernandez Development Company was the contractor.

Let's just say he has a less than stellar record for public road works. And he is known to be a favourite of the Barrow Administration - so the examples of this can be found all over.

Today, Montero said it is the funders, not the government who picked him in this case:

Hon. Rene Montero, Minster of Works
"Well we have abide by the bank procedures and rules and regulations. First it involves the design phase and after that it has to go through tender and the tender process is done by consultants, international consultants. It is not the Government of Belize who decided this. We published it and we got about 7 contractors that bid and after reviewing all the contracts. Mr. Hernandez won the contract. He was the one most qualified. He presented all the requirements that the bank needed, engineers and experience."
