And moving now to political news, the government today announced, as expected, that the day of the general elections, Wednesday November 11th, will be a public and bank holiday.
That's to make voting easier for the 180,000 registered elections when COVID measures will certainly slow the voting process. Faber explained why government took the decision:
Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Leader-Elect
"We feel that if work environments only allow for a short time, you only have two hours to go vote and you are in Orange Walk and you have to come to Belize and you have to then jump on a bus, you have to go by any means necessary because that vote important for you to put in then you endanger your life because you then put yourself in a situation that is not COVID safe but if we give the day it makes it much easier for people to find their way at some point of the day to the polling stations so that they can do their duty to their country and vote."
