In other police news, it was promotion day for a long list of police department personnel. The list of promotions went out earlier this week - including close to 40 cops. But can the government afford all these promotions during a pandemic? That's the question we put to the Commissioner.

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police

"I guess you have heard in the Prime Ministers speech when the pandemic started, and even in the cost saving measures where the Prime Minister had said that the pandemic is not going to affect emoluments, promotions are a part of emoluments in terms of the elevation in salary. But despite that, though we still try our utmost best not to do things that are going to cost the government too much and so what we did is the officers who got promoted they got an acting appointment which means that their salaries do not go up they only get an acting allowance which would have been less than had they received a full promotion. So that is still a cost-saving measure despite the promotions."
