Later on, you'll hear from candidates from both major mass parties in San Pedro and Belmopan.
And while all the candidates had some kind of crowd, one man wasn't happy with the totality of the day's activities.
Commissioner of police Chester Williams told the press this evening that while there was nothing in the law that he could have used to stop the motorcades he had hoped that the political parties would have exercised prudence.
Cherisse Halsall "Today was nomination day and it was said that there were not supposed to be any motorcades in the city, however there were 1 or 2. Has anybody been reprimanded, arrested, charged?"
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police "By law, there is nothing that we could do or we could have done to avoid any motorcade from either political party, hence the reason why we lobbied and asked the political parties not to have motorcades because we know by law, we can't stop them. We, however, had said that once there is a motorcade then we expect that all the requirements of the quarantine regulations as well as the traffic laws are adhered to and so we notice that despite the fact that both political parties had said before that there would be no motorcade that some candidates of both parties still went ahead and had spontaneous motorcades and so we were prepared for that. As I said to my commanders this morning that even though there was already disagreement that there would be none that we must still prepare ourselves in the event that there would be spontaneous motorcade because we anticipated that and so what we did is that in eastern division Mr. Rosado had arranged with the city council to assist in the escorting of the motorcades for both political parties and the reason for the escort was to ensure 1. there was compliance with the regulation, 2. that there was compliance with what has been agreed upon in the bond that they signed and 3. that they adhered to the route they had given to the police for the motorcade so it was in that spirit that the police and city traffic were engaging in the escorting the different motorcades to the respective locations and back to where they retired so that is what took place this morning."
