BDF soldiers are now eligible for pension. The Cabinet gave its approval for the provisions of amendments to sections of the Defence Regulations which will provide pension benefits for the BDF's soldiers and officers. With the new amendments, soldiers are now required to serve a minimum of 15 years before they qualify for pension. All members of the Force that are deemed invalid and served ten years will also be eligible. The amendments will also rectify several disparities by ensuring that the rights and privileges given to the officers to also be available for the soldiers and vice versa. It will also provide for an ex gratia payment to be made for family members of the Force who died in service and a payment of Death in Harness for regularly employed volunteers.
