Earlier we brought you the counterproposal that the unions put forward to the government on Monday. Their firm position was driven home by yesterday's simultaneous motorcades across the country organized by the BNTU.
But we also showed you the Public Service Minister mocking their efforts, encouraging them to use the gas so that the government can collect more taxes.
Today, we asked BNTU president Elena Smith her thoughts on his comments.
Hon. Elena Smith, President, BNTU
"I think sometimes when we see arrogance we failed to remember that it leads us nowhere and so that might be his perspective and he may feel that because he is in power right now, that whatever actions we take might have no effect in his view. We know that as unions when we stand up and we decide that we are going to take on any issue that we go all the way. We are aware of that and so if the minister feels that what we did yesterday was a waste of time, time will tell. That's all I will say."
