But while Bradley wants to trigger some type of change within the party, he's not willing to fight tooth and nail to get to the top. That's because his own ideology is contrary to the political game played in Belize. Instead, he wants to play by his own rules and, well, they might not get him far. But he said he's accepted that possibility and is prepared to lose the game.

"How do you answer the criticism that even if you become leader, the road to electability as the constituency level for you is a challenging one, because your beliefs of how politics and politicians should operate is not in line with the political norms that prevail in Belize's political culture?"
Darrell Bradley, Senator Designate
"I want to be very clear in that response, that I advocate for certain change and I think that that change has to eminate from the vote. I think many of our problems in this society result from the fact that individual people do not appreciate the significance of that vote. I think that it is a high crime in this land when any individual sells their vote or when any individual pays for their vote."

"You don't believe in patronage, clientelism - that boy, I voted for you Darrell, I need your help now."
Darrell Bradley, Senator Designate
"This is something that I have never made my career on that and I count it to be successful in one respect that we won 2 elections at city council by wide margins. I lost in Caribbean Shores. You were correct in saying that it was under 60 votes. The point that I would make here though is that when we did that campaign in Caribbean Shores it was a campaign that largely on issues. We went door to door and I campaign to people. I am prepared to full do that and I would say this, I am prepared to lose. I just want to know that I lose in a way that conforms with what I believe in."
Jules Vasquez, reporter
"I can't change anything if you can't win. In order to win, to get that breakfast you got to break some eggs, sir."
Darrell Bradley, Senator Designate
"I hear that. But If I don't win, that's fine."
Jules Vasquez, reporter
"As somebody who wants to lead you can't say that."
Darrell Bradley, Senator Designate
"I did say that."
Jules Vasquez, reporter
"It's win or die."
Darrell Bradley, Senator Designate
"That is not the case."
Jules Vasquez, reporter
"That's how politics is."
Darrell Bradley, Senator Designate
"That's why as you have said I am not a good politician and that may not be a bad thing. The point that I am making though is that we need to have serious conversations and I actually like this opportunity, because I like you as a person. I like the discussions that we've had, because you real talk. But what I am saying is that I real talk also. We are going to do serious damage to this country if we do not make corrective actions."
Bradley will be sworn in at the next Senate meeting, which will likely be next week.
