But while there is ample evidence that the PUP roundly criticised SOE's under the Barrow administration, today the PM backtracked and said it wasn't the SOE they had a problem with, but rather HOW the UDP did it.
Oh, ok...let's hear the difference:
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I don't think it's a matter where we were always against, calling for an SOE, it's more that it has to be targeted to where the problems are as opposed to throw a wide blanket and affect a lot of people who have nothing to do with this, we believe we have to be more targeted to the area and as to how Minister Musa explained to us, there's just one small geographic area on the southside that is crating havoc, that they're tried best as they can trying to mediate, trying to ask them to hold it down and they don't want to listen and they believe that the only way we could really calm things down is to call for a state of emergency just in that very small targeted area."
"We are doing everything that we can, but there is just a small group of people, maybe 100 or 200 that are creating havoc and we cannot allow them to dictate how we live. Meaning that we need to go after these people that are creating crime with no conscious, just out there shooting. I mean this young guy, it broke my heart, this young kid, a third former from St John's."
"If that were to happen to one of my kids, I would die, honestly. And right now he's fighting for his life and if he lives, I'm told he won't be able to walk. And these guys don't care, we can't allow them to continue to terrorize us, so we have to go at them with everything that we have."
