Earlier we told you about the raft of bills to abolish the post of Director of Health Services. They were introduced in the house late this evening by the Minister of Health and Wellness Misho Chebat. But the Leader of the Opposition rose to ask whether cramming all these bills in the House is absolutely necessary or just a political ploy.
Hon. Patrick Faber, Leader of the Opposition
"I wondered of the honorable minister would be so kind to inform us what the urgency is and I'd want for us to place on record the blatant abuse that is taking place here ramming 12 bills down the throat of this honorable house all in order to satisfy their political mandate, but I'd love to hear what is the urgency and why this standing order 49/1 is being abused?"

Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness
"There is no abuse as is allege by the Leader of the Opposition. What is intended here is to allow for the institutional reorganization at the Ministry of Health and Wellness which will lead to a more efficient and effective leadership and management of the healthcare system throughout the country. We cannot wait anymore. The health system was abandoned for the past 13 years by the opposition. It is time for us to move forward, it is time for us to take the health of this country seriously and it is time for us to deliver the health services that the Belizean people deserve."
