He's seen as an up and coming PUP politician - but two term City Councillor Micah Goodin seems to have gotten demoted by his Mayor.
A PUP release issued this afternoon says the Council is fine tuning its councillor portfolios. But, a listing of those portfolios makes it clear that the only one really affected is Councillor Mica Goodin, who looks like the Mayor is tuning him out.
Goodin loses the powerful portfolio of Sanitation & Maintenance and is left with the virtually non existent E-Governance, while he retains Community Engagement - which is a portfolio that only exists on paper. The critical area of his portfolio now goes to newcomer Kaya Cattouse who adds it to her Youth, Sports & Wellness portfolio.
Councilor Deannie Requena also lost the portfolios of Public Relations and Special Events, which is now assumed by the Mayor. A release says, quote, "the realignment…is…a catalyst for delivering greater results for the remainder of the term."
Sounds good, but sources tell us that the council is deeply divided over a new city wide garbage tax which the mayor wants to implement. We're told those councillors oppose it - which is why they got left with very slender portfolios.
We could not reach either for comment - but it will be interesting to see if the mayor will now push ahead with the planned city wide residential garbage tax - which would be payable by every owner or occupier of a premises on a monthly basis.
