Late this evening, commissioner of police Chester Williams responded to the allegations and characterizations of clear political bias made by OJ Elrington. We spoke to him via phone a short while ago:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"In respect to the allegations made by OJ Elrington about unethical, I don't, sometimes we need to look at those person who are speaking about ethical behaviour and I say no more where that is concerned, but I don't expect anything better from OJ and he is my friend and he will continue to be my friend, but I don't expect anything better from him. How could it be political? Was it the PUP who sent Ms. Arnold to fabricate a story against Mr. Faber? Was it the PUP who told Mr. Faber to assault the woman, if in fact he did assault her? Was it me who did it? How could it be? This is the thing, some of us men of influence, we believe that we can go abuse women, beat them up and we go in a corner and sweet talk them, have them withdraw the matter and then we act as if it never happened and we pretend to live life like normal. It needs to stop and the only way to put an end to these domestic abuse is by us taking a hard line and try to act in defence of those persons who are victims and those persons who have died from domestic abuse. It is too rampant in our society and many of our women and children have lost their lives to domestic violence, but it seems like that is not registering to some people."

And while that is the war of words - the real war is going to be within the UDP - as Faber will now face another formidable attack on his leadership - and it is left to be seen if he can survive the taint of another allegation of domestic abuse against him.
