And adding to that, the Opposition Leader says as far as he knows, Aldana isn't even a UDP.
Shyne Barrow explained that there is no outside influence on the re-districting task force from the opposition party, but reminded the public of the Collet Montejo situation - the PUP Senator was appointed as Field Supervisor, which he says is a clear conflict of interest.
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"The problem with prime minister Briceno is that every time someone objects to his way of managing the affairs of the country, he tries to malign them and discredit them, he does it to the president of the PSU. He says the president of the PSU is a UDP crony, a UDP stalwart, is this the same president of the PSU who used to run down the UDP when he was leader of the opposition? Who he marched with when all the unions marched against the UDP?"
"So when this gentleman resigns from the redistricting task force, citing corruption, the process being corrupt, they come up with a suggestion and then you have ministers saying publicly or saying in whatever form how they want it to go and then they come back to the redistricting task force and then give them instructions, which is why they're so behind. In and of itself, Mr Aldana's resignation has to be taken into strong consideration. Again, I don't know him to be a UDP, now Mr Briceno is saying he's being influenced by a UDP, but then they say that the UDP is weak, is a weak opposition, they have to make up their mind, now we are such a strong opposition, I'm happy that we could interfere in the redistricting process, I do believe we're a strong opposition, but I don't believe there's any interference in that process. But I ask you, and I asked the Belizean people, to look no further than Collet Montejo, who the lead senator for the opposition wrote to the governor general asking that he be disqualified."
"No member of the Senate can be appointed who has any type of connection with elections. Redistricting is a direct connection to the elections, that will determine exactly who you will vote for as far as constituencies. That is why the gentleman, Mr Aldana, resigned."
