Senator and Minister of Immigration Eamon Courtenay also spoke about the reason for extending Belize's Amnesty program for another 3 months.
That extension is largely due to the low number of immigrants who have qualified for the program thus far. Just a fruition of the 40 to 60,000 projected by G.O.B have signed up.
Courtenay explained that many who qualify need more time to be able to access the service. They also need to stop fearing mass deportation:
As of December 15th, 10,812 immigrants have registered for Amnesty in Belize.
